Nestled on the Mashpee-Falmouth line, Ashumet Pond is a 220-acre natural kettlehole pond that's a favorite among Cape Cod bass anglers. With an average depth of 23 feet and a max plunging to 69 feet (some charts show even deeper pockets), this clear-water beauty (transparency often around 12 feet) stays relatively weed-free, letting you target rocky points, steep ledges, and submerged humps effectively. Groundwater springs dominate the northern end, keeping cooler water there year-round, while a minor inlet from an abandoned cranberry bog adds a touch of flow. The 2.5 miles of shoreline are lined with homes, but the pond's deep, clean nature supports healthy populations of both largemouth and smallmouth bass—smallies tend to dominate the deeper, rockier zones, while largies patrol the shallows and any available cover. There's easy launching via the MassWildlife ramp on Sandwich Road.
Where the smallmouths strike like lightning and the largies lurk in the shadows—Ashumet: where Cape bass dreams run deep! 🎣
